Writing Complete Sentences Across the Curriculum

Through a variety of assessments, we realized our students needed improvement in the areas of written and oral language across all subject areas. A significant weakness we noted was writing and speaking in complete sentences. We developed a formative assessment program that would meet the individual needs of our students. In each subject area, we modeled complete sentences, both oral and written. Students were expected to practice writing and speaking in complete sentences. Students were given opportunities to demonstrate their skills using a variety of methods. Students wrote and edited their own writing, edited peers' writing, engaged in question and answer discussions identifying complete and incomplete sentences, created and answered questions for a variety of texts. Technology was integrated throughout the curriculum to enhance student learning.

  3. Great variety -- I loved the "who am I" section. I think I could use that with some of my library skills -- specially learning the Dewey system.
