Balancing Reading in First Grade to Meet the Needs of all Students

Explore all of the prcesses involved in teaching reading to first graders. You will see the students participate in whole group instruction, work in small groups, apply their learning to literacy centers and conference with their teacher about their progress.

  1. This project is outstanding. I urge others to view the work that South Salem's first grade teachers and reading specialist have done to implement Assessment FOR Learning in their language arts instruction based on Salem's Balanced Literacy Model.

  16. Fantastic examples of how teachers can (and should) use observation and everyday assessments to plan for their next lessons. I especially liked how the video clips showed interactions between teachers and students.
